It accounts for two percent of the total port production for one year, only top quality grapes are used (A and B). With excellent organoleptic characteristics, they must have a very full body and a deep colour. Older ports are aged for a maximum of two and a half years before being bottled and generally require a minimum period of three to four years before being served and the others an average of ten to thirty years of bottle ageing before reaching what is considered adequate consumption.
