O Produtor, tasting note published in May 27th 2016

Primus (from the word "first") is the harmony between exuberance and longevity. Exotic fruit, citrus and an ideal marriage between minerality, texture and acidity.

This wine comes from 65-year-old vineyards, about 5000 feet per hectare, located 500 m high and planted on granite soils with sand lines. It was produced from 19 blended varieties (field blend) such as Encruzado, Cercial, Bical, Verdelho, Málvasia, Terrantez, Douradinha, etc … The climatic conditions of the wine year were very favorable, with sun, heat and low humidity, allowing homogeneity in vegetative growth. One of the peculiarities of this year was the vineyard’s ability to remain hydrated during maturation. After 24 hours of skin contact on the day of the harvest, a very slow fermentation followed, first in stainless steel and then in used barrels. The battonage of 3 months caused a good increase of volume that combines quite well with its acidity and minerality. It was subsequently bottled, and the remaining stage in the bottle is being done, where an excellence in aging is desired. This wine only went to the market after 2 years of aging.

For the Quinta da Pellada come mainly grapes “field blend” from the old vines, but also the Touriga Nacional and Tinta Roriz, where it discovers the intense fruit and freshness from the farm grapes that give the name to this wine.
