João Guedes, tasting note published in May 25th 2019
It presents a violet color, mature and intense aromas of red fruits, notes of mint and dark chocolate, well integrated with nuances of the stage wood. In the mouth it reveals itself to be complex, intense, unctuous and balanced, with soft and balanced tannins, ending long, smooth and very persistent. It presents a violet color, mature and intense aromas of red fruits, notes of mint and dark chocolate, well integrated with nuances of the stage wood. It is a blend made from our best grapes of the vine caste Alicante Bouschet, Syrah and Castelão, with the denomination “Vinho Regional Tejo” – (IGP – Protected Geographical Indication). All the grapes were harvested in our vineyards “Senhora das Virtudes” and “Senhora da Escusa”, located in Quinta da Escusa, municipality of Rio Maior, district of Santarém. We place special emphasis on environmental and health issues. The “Senhora das Virtudes” vineyard is cultivated using sustainable practices, certified by the “Integrated Production Standards”. In the maintenance of the soil, special attention is given to combate of erosion and the increase of organic matter content, and so we resort to non-mobilization of the soil and the application of manure of natural origin. Stage of 6 months in French oak barrels. Bottling, labeling and finishing carried out in our Cellar.
Casa Romana Vini
In the lands that today constitute Quinta do Porto Nogueira and Quinta da Escusa, the family began to plant vineyards, privileging the terroirs once occupied by old vines, always with the objective of producing exceptional grapes and making unique wines, originated in Quinta Nogueira , Quinta da Escusa and Quinta da Página. Quinta do Porto Nogueira is located in Alguber, in the municipality of Cadaval, about 70 km west of Lisbon. In the first half of the eighteenth century, it was always owned by the same family and was donated to the Academy of Sciences of Lisbon, around 1980. Since 2004 it is a Romana Vini estate. Quinta da Escusa is located in Senhora da Escusa, in the municipality of Rio Maior, about 70 km northeast of Lisbon, between the villages of Quintas and Vale Barco. Part of the Quinta da Escusa estate belonged to the grandparents and parents of the current owners who, over the decades, exercised agriculture and viticulture. The secular house of Quinta do Porto Nogueira is set against the Roman Bridge over the Arnóia river, which would be the passage of the Roman road that linked Collippo (near Leiria) to Eburobrittium (Óbidos) and that followed to Olisipo (Lisbon). The bridge is testimony to the presence of the Romans in the region and inspired the name Romana Vini, Family Winery.
