A swirl of summer fruits with redcurrant preserves and praline. Varietal identity confirmed by Sicilian green olive, plum fruit and spice. Fine tannins, well concealed oak.

Above average rainfall in winter and spring offered South Australian vineyards healthy soil moisture profiles for the growing season. Cold conditions slowed vine growth in early spring, with temperatures gradually warming in October. Late budbreak, flowering and subsequent veraison delayed the start of harvest. There was abundant rainfall during the growing season and there were no prolonged heat waves during the summer months, with only a few days reaching 40°C. Weather conditions during the final stages of ripening were dry with below average March rainfall. April was mild, allowing an orderly completion of the harvest. The prevailing autumn conditions favoured fully ripened grapes with well developed colours and flavours.

Despite great success, Penfolds never rests on its laurels. In 2012 Penfolds released its most innovative project to date – 12 handcrafted ampoules of the rare 2004 Kalimna Block Cabernet Sauvignon.

Two years later, Penfolds celebrated the 170th anniversary – having just picked up a perfect score of 100 for the 2008 Grange in two of the world’s most influential wine magazines. Today, Penfolds continues to hold dear the philosophies and legends – ‘1844 to evermore!’.
