The Casa da Atela Petit Verdot 2021 was featured as a “Vinho Fora da Capa” (Hidden Gem Wine) in the July 2025 issue of Revista de Vinhos, one of the leading wine publications in Portugal.
Produced at Quinta da Atela, in the Tejo region, this 100% Petit Verdot red wine is a remarkable example of how the variety expresses itself in Portuguese terroirs.
Crafted by winemaker António Ventura, the grapes, harvested from vines planted in 1999 on sandy-loam soils, underwent cold skin maceration, followed by fermentation in stainless steel lagares at 24 ºC. The wine was then aged for 12 months in French oak barrels (new and used, 225L and 300L), gaining structure and complexity.
Visually opaque, with an intense ruby colour, it offers deep aromas of black fruit, green pepper, Portobello mushroom and cocoa. On the palate, it is intense, with firm tannins and great freshness, leading to a long and captivating finish.
